CBD

132 products

Choosing CBD comes down to two decisions: format and spectrum. Format sets how you take it and how soon it is absorbed, from a tincture under the tongue to a gummy, a capsule or a balm. Spectrum sets what comes with the CBD, including whether any THC does. Every product page links its batch Certificate of Analysis.

Which CBD format should you choose?

  • Oils and tinctures are the adjustable format. A graduated dropper lets you change the amount in small steps. The Canna River Classic gives 100mg of CBD per 1mL serving, and the Lazarus Naturals Classic gives 50mg per milliliter with the dropper marked every quarter milliliter.
  • Gummies carry a fixed amount per piece. A NuLeaf Naturals gummy holds 15mg of CBD. A Lazarus Naturals High Potency Isolate Gummy holds 150mg.
  • Capsules and softgels have no taste and need no measuring. Medterra Daily Relief comes at 25mg or 50mg of CBD isolate per capsule. Lazarus Naturals High Potency softgels carry 200mg each.
  • Topicals go on the skin and are not swallowed. The label gives the CBD in the whole container, not per use. The NuLeaf Naturals balm holds 300mg in the half-ounce jar and 900mg in the 1.5-ounce jar, which is the same balm in a bigger jar.
  • Pet CBD is formulated and dosed for animals. The Medterra pet tinctures are CBD isolate at 10mg or 25mg per milliliter. Talk to your veterinarian before you start.

Full spectrum, broad spectrum or isolate?

Spectrum describes what was left in the extract. Full spectrum keeps everything the plant produced, including a trace of THC. Broad spectrum keeps the minor cannabinoids and terpenes and takes the THC out. Isolate is a single cannabinoid with nothing else.

If you want to avoid THC in any format, not only in oils, start at THC-Free CBD. One thing to watch: Canna River sells most of its tinctures, gummies and softgels in both Full Spectrum and Broad Spectrum under the same product name. The spectrum is an option you pick on the product page, so check it in the cart before you pay.

How do you read a CBD label?

The large number on the front is usually the total for the whole container, and it is often total cannabinoids, not CBD. The Canna River Ultra Classic tincture says 20,000mg, and that figure covers 120mL of oil. The Canna River Pain tincture is a blend, with 83mg of CBD and 42mg of CBG in each milliliter. The number that matters is the CBD per serving, and the serving is sometimes two pieces, not one. Products built around a second cannabinoid have their own pages: CBG and CBN.

Frequently asked questions

Which CBD format is best for a beginner?

One that lets you start low. A tincture with a graduated dropper is the most flexible: a quarter milliliter of a 100mg per milliliter oil is 25mg of CBD. A 25mg capsule is the simpler option if you would rather not measure. Stay at one amount for a few days before changing it.

Does all CBD contain THC?

No. It depends on the spectrum. Full spectrum products keep a trace of THC from the plant, and the brands that publish it state the milligrams per serving. Broad spectrum is tested as having none detected. Isolate is CBD on its own. The spectrum is stated on every product page.

Why is the number on the bottle higher than the CBD per serving?

Because the front label describes the whole container. A 30mL tincture labeled 1,500mg delivers 50mg per milliliter. In blends, the big number often adds CBD to CBG or CBN. Read the per-serving breakdown on the product page to see how much of each cannabinoid you are taking.

What is a Certificate of Analysis?

It is a report from an independent laboratory on one production batch. The brand does not run the test itself. It lists each cannabinoid the lab measured, including THC, and usually screens for pesticides, heavy metals and solvents. Every product page links the report for its batch.

How long does CBD take to work in each format?

A tincture held under the tongue for about a minute is absorbed sooner than anything you swallow. Gummies and capsules pass through digestion first, so they take longer, and food changes the timing. A topical stays where you apply it and is not comparable to the other formats.
