How to choose a CBD tincture

  • Compare the milligrams per milliliter, not the number on the bottle. A 6,000mg bottle and a 1,500mg bottle can deliver the same amount per dropper in different sizes, and the bottle figure only tells you how long it lasts.
  • Look at the dropper markings. A graduated dropper is what makes a tincture adjustable; without one you are guessing.
  • Decide whether you want a second cannabinoid. CBG and CBN both appear here at stated ratios, and the Lazarus Naturals CBG tincture carries CBG with no CBD at all.
  • Check the carrier oil. MCT from coconut is the usual one, which matters if you avoid tree nuts.
  • Check the spectrum. Broad spectrum and isolate have no detectable THC; full spectrum keeps a trace.

Potency spans a wide range. The Canna River Classic Tincture gives 100mg of CBD per 1mL serving in a 15mL bottle; the Ultra Classic holds 20,000mg of cannabinoids in 120mL. How to take a tincture

Draw the amount you want into the dropper, put it under your tongue and hold it there for about sixty seconds before swallowing. That is the whole point of the format: part of it is absorbed through the tissue under the tongue rather than going through digestion, which is why it works sooner than a capsule or a gummy. Swallowing it straight away is not wrong, it just turns the tincture into a slower product.

What is the difference between CBD oil and a CBD tincture?

In practice, nothing. The two words are used interchangeably for hemp extract suspended in a carrier oil with a dropper. Historically a tincture meant an alcohol extraction, but almost nothing sold as a CBD tincture today is made that way.

How much CBD oil should I take?

Start at the low end of what the product page suggests and stay there for a few days before changing anything. A graduated dropper lets you move in quarter-milliliter steps, which on a 100mg per milliliter tincture is 25mg at a time.

How long does CBD oil take to work?

Sooner than a capsule or a gummy, because part of it is absorbed under the tongue instead of passing through digestion. Holding it there for about a minute is what makes the difference.

What is in CBD oil besides CBD?

A carrier oil, usually MCT from coconut, sometimes flaxseed or hempseed. Full and broad spectrum products also carry the plant's other cannabinoids and terpenes. Can I give a human CBD tincture to my dog?

No. Pet formulas are dosed for animal body weight and flavored for the species. The pet tinctures in this collection, from Medterra, Daily Pet Co and Lazarus Naturals, are separate products for that reason.
